Coosa Chiefdom Day

August 24th from 9:30am-2pm

Join us in exploring the rich history of The Coosa Chiefdom and its impact on the land now called Audubon Acres.

Pre-registration is required for all programs. Lunch registrations must be made by August 21, 2024.

Schedule of Events

• 9:30am-11am: Spring Frog Cabin Exploration with Docent
• 9:30am-11am: A Guided History Hike to Little Owl Village
• 11am-12pm: Presentations
• 12pm-4pm: Spring Frog Cabin Exploration with Docent
• 12pm-1pm: Catered Lunch**^
• 1pm-2:30pm: Indigenous Herbs Tour**

Presentations:

• Experts will discuss Little Owl Village (found at Audubon Acres): its history, its archaeological significance, and how it might have looked.
• Loren Howard, ceramicist and adjunct professor of visual arts
• Ava Lowery, archaeology student and intern
• Juanita Wade, participant in the archaeological dig completed at Little Owl Village

​Programs are free to members and included with daily admission fee for non-members. Programs denoted ** require a fee regardless of membership status.

Coosa Chiefdom Day is a rain-or-shine event. The guided hike and the herbs tour will be outdoors, please prepare accordingly.

^Lunch is a Publix Deli Sub Sandwich Box Lunch-- A half sub, a bag of chips, 2 cookies, and a Publix tea or lemonade.
