About The Collection
Opening at Audubon Acres in 2016, the C.E Blevins "Avian Jewels" collection of bird egg replicas features some 1,200 hand-done recreations of eggs from around the globe. Crafted by C.E. Blevins, an artist, as well as retired teacher, minister, and missionary, each piece looks virtually identical to real eggs found in the wild. Blevins believed that bird eggs were a prime example of the beauty and perfection in nature and marveled at the intricate coloration of even the least colorful of birds.
For several years before his death and after his passing, the Blevins family operated the C.E. Blevins Avian Learning Center in Cohutta, GA where the collection was displayed. The collection was loaned to Chattanooga Audubon in 2015. We are honored to have been entrusted with Mr. Blevins' work and grateful to the Blevins family for their assistance in readying the exhibit.

About Mr. Blevins
Prior to coming to Audubon Acres in 2015, the collection was displayed at the Avian Learning Center in Cohutta, Georgia, a museum operated by the Blevins Family and their supporters. Though the Avian Learning Center is no longer in operation, this short film beautifully shares Mr. Blevin's thoughts on his work.

World's Largest Whooping Crane Egg Replica
In order to help raise awareness for the collection, Mr. Blevins and his supporters constructed one jumbo-sized whooping crane egg measuring 9 feet tall and 5 feet wide. This is the only egg in the collection which is not done to the exact specifications for the actual eggs on which it is based.
Though its size may be slightly eggs-aggerated, we can't deny that it is truly eggs-ceptional! |
