Citizen Science Program
Watered down TNP program where they attend events we host here and get "stamps" or stickers for each event and they have to attend one of every type. One animal, one plant, one interp walk, one art, one history etc. They get something at the end if they've completed everything. For all ages and consider it the "little sibling" of TNP?
What is Opie Acres?Opie Acres is an incredible wildlife rehabilitation organization that gives life saving medical care to ill, injured and orphaned Virginia Opossums and other wildlife in the state of Tennessee. They seek out those creatures that would otherwise be ignored, forgotten or improperly cared for and give them the highest level of care possible. Most importantly, they educate the public on the true nature and benefit of this remarkable, helpful and ancient animal.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call 423-892-1499 Why Opossums?"The opossum is sometimes referred to as a living fossil. It has a legacy that goes back more than 65 million years! Furthermore, Didelphis virginiana is the only marsupial in North America and is commonly seen across Tennessee.
In addition to carrying around up to 13 babies in their pouch and and boasting an awesome prehensile tail, opossums have more teeth than any other land mammal. Even so, they have some pretty cool tactics for tricking potential predators into leaving them alone. And they eat a lot of bugs. They are definitely an animal we are happy to have around." -Opie Acres |
